According to the LA Times, rapper Pimp C, who was found dead last December in the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood, died of a combination of prescription cough syrup and a preexisting medical condition.
The coroner’s findings were that he died due to promethazine/codeine, although the amount found in his system was not enough to trigger an overdose. However, Pimp C, whose real name is Chad Butler, also had a history of sleep apnea, which is a condition that causes it’s sufferers to stop breathing for brief periods while sleeping. The combination of syrup and sleep apnea were enough to cause Butler to stop breathing for good.
